Where Good Sports Meet

In 2008 I was happily working as a professional in a Government-owned corporation. The hours were great, the stress levels were low, and the pay was not bad. Work was fun, but not overly challenging – although that didn’t worry me at all. I had a 10 minute drive to work each day and parking was FREE.

And then I received the call. An opportunity had come up within my old company where I had spent 7 years previously, and where I completed my graduate program shortly after finishing my university degree in the year 2000. The challenge in this new job back at the old company would be far greater, as too would the salary.

The one thing I didn’t quite count on was all of the travel that would come with this new job.
Instead of a 10 minute drive, I now had 45 minute bus trip to and from work each day, and on top of that I was doing quite a lot of travel to the Bowen Basin Coalfields in Central Queensland. The travel involved plenty of flights in the QANTAS Dash 8 propeller jets, as well as many a night staying in Central Queensland hotel rooms. I can tell you straight that my nights in these hotel rooms were pretty dull – even with the Austar television and nice meals.

I was enjoying the work immensely, but can’t deny the fact that I was getting extremely bored with the commute to and from work, and the monotonous flights between Brisbane and Central Queensland. This got me thinking – should I take up some part time study and put all of this idle time I now had to good use? After all, there are only so many movies and TV series I could watch on my iPod. – Even if they were “Free” movies my Grandparents had downloaded.

I gave the study a fair bit of thought, but couldn’t think of anything I particularly wanted to learn about or further my career prospects in. I also couldn’t fathom the idea of studying again. This got me thinking, what else could I do with this spare travel time? It was then I got the idea in my head of starting up an online business.

I had no idea where to start really and so I bought a bunch of 2nd hand books off the internet (some might say ironically, or not) and began reading up on small business and internet marketing and the like. I also bought a notebook and jotted down any ideas I could think of. All of this was done either on the Brisbane City Council Bus, or on the QANTAS or Jetstar planes. I would get home and do a bit of quick research on my ideas, and 99 times out of 100, find out there wasn’t a market for my ideas, or worse still, the ideas had already been thought of and developed by others.

Whilst thinking of ideas, the one thing I kept at the front of my mind is that the business had to be in an area of interest that I would enjoy. I didn’t want it to be a labour of hate. With this in mind, I kept coming back to Sport. Ever since I was a young child, I have always enjoyed playing sport, watching sport, and reading about sport. I had always dreamt of having a career in sports, but it did not quite pan out that way – not that I have a single regret. It is still a joke to this day within my family, that if someone hands me a newspaper, I will turn it straight over to the back page to check out the sports headlines, before seeing what real news is going on in the world.

Even though my fitness and skills are not where they once were, I still enjoy playing and watching golf, tennis, rugby league, touch football, cricket and more. You name it; I will give it a crack. Well pretty much. I can’t say I have tried either yoga or ballet as yet though.

Back to my pursuit of a business idea - after 6 months of dreaming (literally at times) up online business ideas I finally thought of something that I thought had some potential, and more importantly hadn’t been monopolised yet, in either Australia or Overseas. After 6 months of business development, website design and marketing, Sports Partners was converted from a dream to reality.

It’s at this point I have to tell you all that Sports Partners is not the work of just me. From the concept design, through to business development and now operation, the business is very much a friends and family affair, with 20 good friends and family involved in the business as shareholders or directors, as well as advisors and web site development. Our ages range from 27 through to 73, and we come from all walks of life.

So what exactly is Sports Partners? Sports Partners is a free website www.sportspartners.com.au where our members can find other individuals, teams, clubs, or businesses for sports, hobbies and travel.
You can search by activity, club type or business type, age, sex, location, and skill level. For example, your new year’s resolution is to get fit, and so you would like to find a running partner, walking partner or perhaps even a soccer team or touch football team. At the click of just a few buttons you can have a list of people’s profiles in front of you, from where you can then make secure contact with as few or as many of them as you choose –all for free of course.

The same deal applies if you are in search of a particular business type or club. Simply nominate the business or club type, the distance range from your postcode, and you will have the contacts for the relevant organisations in front of you in a matter of seconds. Of course, if you are business or club, Sports Partners is a great place for you to gain targeted exposure.

Sports Partners caters for all ages, and is a great site if you are in search of a new golf partner, or maybe even a dance partner. In a similar vain, Sports Partners is proving extremely popular with people travelling away from home, people new to town and looking to meet others for sports and hobbies, as well as those simply looking for travel partners. What better way to meet new people when you are new to town, then to join a new netball team or basketball team, or even just to find a walking partner or running partner to get fit with or a mothers group to chew the fat.

To keep things fun at Sports Partners, we run regular Sports Tipping competitions, with some great prizes up for grabs. Some recent competitions have included the Australian Open Tennis, Ashes Cricket, World Cup Cricket, Rugby World Cup and Melbourne Cup, just to name a few, where our winners have won all sorts of great prizes ranging from Netbook computers, to Nintendo Wii’s and Sony Playstations, to iTune vouchers, Alpha Sports Magazine subscriptions and Rebel Sport gift vouchers.

As you can see Sports Partners is a lot of fun, not just for our members, clubs and businesses partners, but also for myself and our Shareholders. We are growing by the day and in fact are now getting thousands of hits a month. We look forward to our continued goal of putting people in touch with others for sports and hobbies, and can’t wait for our next development – perhaps some smart phone apps and the like.

One thing is for sure, the daily grind that was once my bus trip to work and back each day, now flies by in a flash, and my viewing of the latest blockbusters on my iPod has hit an all time low.
Michael Vincent

“THE MERRY WIDOW

Melbourne Opera continues its sell out tour of Lehar's ever popular "The Merry Widow" at the Capital Theatre on Saturday 17th September.

Here are just some of the reviews received from its Melbourne season:
The Australian – unmissable, …a superbly nuanced production
The Age – sheer delight, …an idiomatic, noble, and assured performance
Crikey – damn good fun, …another triumph
Theatre People – Melbourne Opera delights with this champagne comedy,
…quite divine
The Marketeer - something seems to be happening at the MO: should open new possibilities for the company; … the audience loved it and so will you.

"The Merry Widow" features an all star cast with popular soprano Dominique Oyston starring as Hanna Glawari, the Merry Widow, whose huge fortune is the subject of much intrigue during the course of the show.

David Rogers-Smith, who scored a massive success in last year's "Pagliacci", plays the dashing Count Danilo, Hanna's former lover who reluctantly accepts the job of seducing Hanna and saving the bankrupt principality of Pontevedro.

Popular Australian tenor Nick Seidenman plays Camille, the young lover of Valencienne, played by current local Bendigo girl Angela Hogan, and the comic roles of Baron Zeta and Njegus, the Pontevedrian Ambassador and Attache respectively are played by Ian Cousins and David Gould. In the pit is conductor Greg Hocking with the full Melbourne Opera Orchestra, and on stage the full Melbourne Opera chorus under the guiding hand of chorusmaster Bill Bamford. Hugh Halliday directs The production is performed in English with a hilarious new translation.

"The Merry Widow" is directed by Hugh Halliday and beautiful new "belle epoque" sets have been designed by Andrew Bellchambers. Costumes are designed by Zohie Castellano.

"The Merry Widow" swept the world in 1904 and remains a huge audience favourite largely because of the brilliant score which features Merry Widow Waltz, Girls, Girls, Girls, and of course, "Vilia", Hanna's great aria in Act 2.

How To Fish For Trout - Tips To Fish For Trout The Right Way!

How To Fish For Trout - Tips To Fish For Trout The Right Way! It's quite engaging how 1 or 2 folk, desiring to learn how to fish for trout, would go and pay an instructor to show them about fishing. Being new to the past-time, they may be enthusiastic to understand the correct things to do, or the way to do things in the right way. Or maybe, they need to get urgent tips and revelations from seasoned fisher people. Irrespective of the aim, there isn't a need to hire an instructor for this. All you will need to do is go thru this discussion and you'll see that there's much ado about nothing. The lessons are easy and clear. 1. Look for a good location for you to fish. This would include determining if there are trout round the stream or the lake, or where do they often stay, or what's the perfect time to fish for trout, among other concern. Trout are typically seen on lakes or streams. The ones that are found in lakes are much certain to stay in the bottom contrasted to the ones that swim in the stream. The second are far more observable since they swim around hunting for food as well as drifting with the present. Checking also the location would give you a concept which apparatus or tools you want to prepare. 2. Pack smartly. Travel light and bring only the things you find required. One bag should contain your fly lines, hooks, reel, spoon and bait. It should also include extra threads in the event of emergency. Confirm your equipments are well-preserved so as not to encounter any issues while they're in use. Clothing also should be applicable for the trip. There aren't any needed clothing rules, while you are comfortable. nonetheless be fully sure to be aware about the basic guiding principles in wearing clothing for fishing like never wear shirts that are too flashy and would not let you camouflage yourself with the environment. Though optional, bringing hats and sunglasses are beneficial since it helps to block the sun as well as keep your eyes from the glare of the river. 3. choose a spot where you think the trout might appear. Clear hiding places can be your clue like the bushes on the brook shore, the bark of trees submerged on the water or a stone in the middle of the stream. Attach your bait on your hook, covering the length of the hook with the mass of your favorite bait. Then carefully throw your line to the brook. Once the attraction is on the brook, swing the rod from side to side till the attraction begins to drift. Watch your rod tip closely to see signals of whether the bait has been taken. When the rod tip begins to bend, it recommends you have a catch. Reel the line to you, not pulling heavily to circumvent the line being cut. Get your trout employing a fish net and place it in a container. If what you have caught doesn't satisfy you, continuously throw it back in to the water and start setting up your gear again. That wasn't hard, right? The reality is that knowing how to fish for trout is largely straightforward. All you need to do is decide on the best location, pack the proper tools, have the right hardware and bide your time. Actually a beloved catch of a trout is waiting at the end of the line.

Writing Tips for submission to Online Benidgo

Writing Tips for submission to Online Benidgo

The main goal of article writing is to show your expertise on a certain subject. Your readers will appreciate your professionalism and the information provided in the article, will find you to be an expert on the subject, and will want to know more about you.

The secondary goal of article writing is advertisement, which can be divided in 2 parts:

Publicity - Most writers own a website, and a reader who wishes to know more will probably search for the link to your website. Thanks to article writing, your site will be found and accessed from different sources - not just from the ArticlesBase.com directory, but also from other websites that display ArticlesBase's articles.

Rank - Inbound links to your website help promote it on different search engines, so the more an article gets "scattered around" the Net, the more it help’s your site's optimization.

The following are some tips on how to use ArticlesBase to its full potential:

Article Title - The article title is the first thing a reader spots, as do search engines. Make your article stand out among countless others by having a clear and convincing title, one that will "lure" the viewer to keep reading. We recommend you use relevant keywords in the article's title, but not a meaningless title containing only keywords. For example, an article about loans with the title "loan loans" has no meaning for the reader and he will probably look for the next article on the subject.

Article Summary - The article summary is the second stage in reeling in the reader. The summary is an overview of the article, showing the reader what to expect from the article. Therefore, the article summary should also be well written and convincing. Furthermore, many ArticlesBase.com RSS feeds display the article summary - more of a reason to create an excellent article summary.

Article Content - The content of the article is the core element of the whole process. The article itself is a great opportunity to place relevant keywords in order to improve search engine indexing of the article. It is also the opportunity to place links to information resources (to improve credibility) or to relevant pages on your site. But the most important thing is QUALITY CONTENT. Nothing can replace quality content. Article writing serves to establish your reputation, and for that matter the reader must feel he is reading rich and professional content. If English is not your first language, and even if it is, we recommend that you have someone proofread your articles before you post them. Good grammar will help increase your credibility.

Author Bio - Tell the user who you are and how to get in touch with you. If you have managed to impress your readers with your knowledge, chances are that they will want to read more of your articles, visit your website, or contact you. The author bio section is a good place to tell your readers a bit about yourself and to include contact information such as your name, phone number, e-mail address and a link to your website.
